About Construction Solutions
An exterior remodeling company in Cincinnati. Roofing, siding, windows, gutters, doors, decks and additions, run by the person who quotes your job.

Three Sides of the Business
Most remodeling companies get started the same way. Somebody good with their hands works out that they could sell the work themselves, and they open up. It is a narrow window onto the industry.
Tom Bolt came at it from the other end.
Manufacturing. The first fifteen years of his career were spent working for manufacturers, first a shingle manufacturer, then a siding, window and door manufacturer.
Distribution. Nine years after that in distribution, which is where the products actually get chosen, stocked and sold to contractors.
Remodeling. Then Construction Solutions.
"So I've got all three. I have experience in all three chains. Manufacturing, distribution, to the remodeling."
It is why the conversation about your job tends to start with the product rather than the price. He has sold these materials from the factory side and the distributor side, and he knows which ones are worth what the manufacturer says they are.
Why We Use Specialist Subcontractors
This is one of the questions Tom gets asked most, so here is the straight answer.
The crews on your house are subcontractors, not employees. That is a deliberate choice, and the reason is specialisation.
A company with its own crew has to keep that crew busy. A roof today, a siding job next week, something else the week after. The crew ends up doing a bit of everything.
We would rather have contractors who do nothing but windows, and subcontractors who do nothing but siding, and so on down the list. The trade-off is that we are coordinating more people. What you get for it is somebody on your house who does that one thing every working day.
"We like to specialize in everything we do. That's why we have contractors who do nothing but windows and subcontractors who do nothing but siding and so forth."
You Deal With Tom
He quotes the job, he makes the decisions, and he is who you call if something is wrong.
About three quarters of our work comes from referrals, which is the number we pay the most attention to. It means the last customer was willing to put their own name behind us.
"The day we met Tom and Dan, I knew we'd go with this company as I instantly felt like these guys were honest and committed to seeing our project through. They told me they'd get us on the schedule and had a start date of about 4 weeks out. They were actually able to start our job a few days earlier than anticipated."
The Materials We Buy
We buy from specialty distributors, not from Home Depot or Lowe’s.
We are also not tied to any one manufacturer. On windows that means wood, vinyl and fiberglass from several makers. On siding it means James Hardie fiber cement, vinyl and cedar, depending on the house.
When Tom tells you a product is worth the money, that is a judgement formed on the manufacturing and distribution side of the business before he ever quoted a job.
