Door Installation and Replacement in Cincinnati
Entry doors, storm doors, patio and French doors and basement doors, installed across Greater Cincinnati, with free estimates from Construction Solutions.

The Doors We Install
We install exterior doors. That covers:
- Entry and front doors
- Storm doors
- Patio, sliding and French doors
- Basement doors
Quick definitions, because these names get used loosely. A hinged patio door has one panel that actually opens. A French door has two panels that both operate. A sliding door’s panel slides rather than swings.
Wood, Steel or Fiberglass
Three materials, and the right one depends less on budget than on whether you want to paint the door or stain it. Our position, from the door page we have been running for years:
The most common exterior door today, and what usually goes on a back or side door. This is the one we recommend when you are painting the door rather than staining it. Once it is painted, it needs little to no maintenance.
We do not recommend a stained steel door. There are steel doors with a wood grain texture meant to be stained, and in our view they look cheap. If you want a stained door, go fiberglass or wood.
What we normally recommend when you want a stained wood grain appearance. It looks very similar to wood and typically runs about half the cost. It comes smooth or with a wood grain texture, and with a lot of glass options.
The most expensive of the three, and the most beautiful. Nothing looks quite like a freshly stained mahogany door.
It is also the only one of the three that is genuinely work. Ideally it gets a coat of urethane once a year, more so if it faces the sun. If that is not something you want to keep up with, fiberglass gets you most of the look.
On the rare job where somebody wants a wood door, it is usually something like a Pella patio door.
Getting a Door Watertight
A door that leaks is not a door problem. It is an installation problem.
We seal them very carefully. That is most of it.
The one that takes real thought is a basement door, because the water has somewhere to collect and nowhere to go. Where there is a drain, we work to it. Where there is not, we make sure there is proper drainage, so the stairwell does not turn into a fish bowl.
"The most important thing is it is water tight."
How Long a Door Takes
About four weeks from your call. That covers measuring, ordering and installing.
“Custom” usually does not mean custom-sized. Front doors are custom in the sense that they get pre-finished for you. Most doors are not built to a special size. If someone quotes you a much longer lead time, that is usually what the difference is.
Our Door Work

A Therma-Tru front door, with a new front porch, gable roof and box bay windows.

A brand new front door, after reframing rotted structure and installing all new cedar siding.

Midway sliding windows and a patio door, to bring in as much light as possible.

Polaris vinyl windows and doors, converting an old screened-in porch.
On each of these, the door was part of a larger project.
From Door Customers
“We had new windows & a new storm door installed! The entire crew was very friendly & everything looks great.
Our door ended up breaking (our fault) & they came back to fix it for free.
Highly recommend!”

Door Questions
What kinds of doors do you install?
Exterior doors: entry and front doors, storm doors, patio and sliding doors, French doors and basement doors.
Should I get steel, fiberglass or wood?
Start with whether you are painting or staining. If you are painting, steel. If you want a stained wood grain look, fiberglass gets you most of the way there for about half the cost of wood. Wood is the most beautiful and the most upkeep, and it wants a coat of urethane about once a year.
How long does a new door take?
About four weeks from your call, covering measuring, ordering and installing. Front doors get pre-finished for you, which is usually what “custom” means on a door quote.
What do you do to make sure a door does not leak?
We seal them carefully. On a basement door we pay attention to drainage, so water that collects in the stairwell has somewhere to go.
