Can You Replace Just a Few Pieces of Siding?

Sometimes, yes. It depends on what the repair touches and whether the fix will actually hold.

Work on One Spot Can Affect the Siding Around It

Owner Tom Bolt’s rule of thumb on partial siding work:

"Every part of the wall affects every other part of the wall."

Tom Bolt, Owner

Tom sees this most often when someone wants siding replaced on only part of a house. On one job, the homeowner wanted 3 walls done out of roughly 10. Once the trim came off, siding that was supposed to stay ended up affected, and the crew had to go back to it.

That example involved several walls rather than a few individual pieces. The issue Tom described was that removing trim affected siding that wasn’t originally supposed to come off.

Tom explains how work on one part of the siding can affect the material around it.

When a Repair Would Only Be Temporary

Tom’s answer on when a repair is the wrong call is simple: when the repair is only going to be a temporary fix.

Tom also gives painting as a temporary option: you can paint, but he says you’ll still have to do something in about two years.

Not sure whether a repair makes sense? Call 513-973-4274 and we’ll come look.

What We May Find Behind the Siding

When siding comes off, the material behind it becomes visible. Sometimes that reveals damage that couldn’t be seen before.

"If we go in and run into some bad wood, we will not just go over it. We'll actually repair all the damage."

Tom Bolt, Owner

What Happens If We Find Bad Wood

1

We find it. Bad wood or damaged framing can show up once the old siding comes off.

2

We put the cost in writing. Repairing the damage is a charge, and it goes on our quote.

3

You approve it. We get your approval before the repair work begins.

4

We repair it. The damaged wood is repaired before anything covers it back up.

Damage Found on Real Jobs

These were full exterior projects rather than siding repairs. They document the kind of damage that turns up once siding comes off.

Matching Existing Vinyl Siding

It depends on what you have.

With vinyl, we take it to our supplier and match it as close as we can get it.

We look for the closest match our supplier carries.
